Workers' Millennium Project completed2 March 2001 - The Canadian Labour Congress announced the release of a CD-ROM and video series to mark completion of The Workers' Millennium Project. Available in French and English, the project includes: * A series of four half-hour documentaries.
All covering the history of Canada's labour movement over the past century and the women and men who fought for workers' rights in Canada. "The CD-ROM, the video series and the book are new tools to fill an important void," said Kenneth Georgetti, President of the Canadian Labour Congress. "For too long, our children have left school with little or no appreciation of the struggles and successes of working people. These new tools are destined to have a long-term educational value." The Canadian Labour Congress' initiative was supported by the Government of Canada who contributed $200,000 through the Canada Millennium Partnership Program (CMPP). "Who better to tell this story than the women and men who shaped the very history of work ethics in this country," said the Honourable Herb Gray, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister responsible for the Government of Canada's millennium initiative. "For they represent the conscience of this great nation." Experts and specialists who were involved in conceiving, researching, writing and producing the three works include: - archivist and visual researcher Elspeth Domville,
Executive producers for the project were Laszlo Barna (CBC's Da Vinci's Inquest, History Television's Turning Points and the David Milgaard Story) and Larry Katz (labour consultant and retired national research director of the Canadian Union of Public Employees).
