National Awards for Learning Technologies in the Workplace19 February 2001 - The Office of Learning Technologies, Human Resources Development Canada and The Conference Board of Canada are seeking successful businesses that use learning technologies in the workplace. The National Awards for Learning Technologies in the Workplace are intended to recognize initiatives providing positive models for investing in learning technologies for employees. Winning programs will have the following characteristics: - use appropriate technology-enhanced learning in the workplace to raise employee skill levels and improve or maintain the employability of workers; Canada's workplaces are becoming increasingly sophisticatedtechnology, machinery, equipment and processes. This is essential if they are to remain competitive in the global economy. Technology-enhanced learning opportunities are an essential requirement if the need for an ever more highly skilled workforce is to be met. James R. Nininger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Conference Board of Canada says: "We want to showcase what works in developing and maintaining a skilled workforce through technology enhanced solutions. This new award program will encourage Canadian employers and workers to take action," Winners of the award will be honoured and showcased at the Partners 2001 - Linking Education and the Local Economy Symposium and Showcase, April 26-28, 2001, in Winnipeg.
