May 9 2001 - The Petroleum Services
Association of Canada (PSAC) has launched what is described as 'a unique Virtual Career
Fair on the Internet' in conjunction with Human Resources Development Canada (HRDC).
To help deal with a growing labour shortage, the new website
www.careersinoilandgas.com will
provide information on career opportunities in service, supply and manufacturing
sectors of the upstream oil and gas industry.
Roger Soucy, President of PSAC, said: "We're proud of this breakthrough site.
We've taken everything great about a career fair for students and put it onto our
Virtual Career Fair site. Anyone can log on and explore upstream oil and gas industry
jobs in amazing detail."
PSAC represents a wide range ofore than 240 companies working on oil and gas exploration
and production. They employ more than 28,000 Canadians and account for 80% of revenue in
the sector. The new site took a year to plan and was launched in the Career Centre at Crescent Heights High
School, in Calgary, Alberta.
Students and others can access on-line videos, day-in-the life occupational
profiles, job descriptions, scheduled interactive chats, training and
mentoring information, links and more.
"We believe it's the first of its kind and we're excited about what it
will do for students planning their careers," said Elizabeth Aquin, Manager of
Operations at PSAC. "All our focus group testing showed that students are
serious about their futures and www.careersinoilandgas.com will make it so
much easier for them to make informed decisions."
