Boss Quiz

by M.P. Hummingbird

January 10 2002 - If you had to rate yourself on a scale from 1 to 10 for being a "good boss" what would it be?

When the Canadian government started a "bad boss hotline" for employee complaints, there was so many calls it burnt out the line in just a few hours. Would your employees use such a service to complain about you?

Do the following quiz and find out if you are a good boss or not. Then plan ways to improve your bossing skills.

Rating:
0 - no
1 - sometimes
2 - always

A) You can easily be approached by ALL types of people.

B) You give accurate and logical answers to questions.

C) If you don't know the answer to a question, you will seek out the answer and then convey it back to the person who asked it.

D) You are always accessible by some means of communication.

E) You look for ways to improve the effectiveness of your operation.

F) You correct wrongful actions promptly and tactfully.

G) You check back on things and don't just assume they are done.

H) You are able to act as a positive representative of your organization to the public.

I) You follow all the policies, procedures, and tasks, of your organization as they are officially outlined.

J) You are able to designate routine tasks to appropriate personnel.

Score:
15 - 20 You are a great boss already.
7 - 15 You are a good boss but could improve.
0 - 7 You are not a good boss and perhaps should consider going back to being an employee.
