November 10 2020 - Did you know that almost 75% of American workers in their 30s want a career change? According to this statistic, there's a very good chance that you fall into this demographic.
As you may already know, trying to change your career in your 30s can feel impossible. With daily obligations, and maybe even a young family, how can you ever take the necessary steps to changing to a career you love?
The answer is online courses!
Are you interested in hearing more? Then here are 6 reasons why you should take online courses to further your career.
1. You Have a Wide Variety of Choices for Classes
If you've gone to college before, then you'll know that class choices are limited. Maybe you want to take a niche class, but your local university doesn't even offer it. In that case, you'd have to either go to another college or give up on taking that class altogether.
But that's not the case with online classes at all. Practically all subjects for classes are possible, meaning you can pick and choose the exact classes you want to take. The chances of you picking second or third choice classes are much slimmer.
When you can take the classes you truly desire to take, then it'll be much easier to learn as well.
2. Your Online Course Schedule Is Much More Flexible
We all lead very busy lives. Whether it's a demanding job, budding family to take care of, or other personal things, it can be very difficult to fit higher education into your schedule. This is the reason why many people give up on pursuing a degree, as it's very time-consuming.
With conventional colleges, classes are given at set times, which can interfere with your schedule. If you aren't able to attend, then there usually aren't very many alternatives.
With online courses, your schedule is much more flexible. Not only do they have more choices for night and weekend classes, but many are prerecorded/recorded live so you can watch the lectures whenever you're free.
Online courses don't hold you to a rigid schedule, which is perfect for the busy professional or parent.
3. You Can Learn at Your Own Pace
Life whizzes by surprisingly fast. It's also very unpredictable. You might have no downtime one week, while you have plenty of free time the next.
In a traditional university setting, courses don't allow for these hectic and erratic schedules. All it takes is one busy week, and you're forever trying to catch up.
What's fantastic about online courses is that many allow you to learn at your own pace. While they do release lectures and coursework regularly, it's up to you when you want to view the lectures and finish the homework. In the end, everyone will finish, but on their own terms.
For example, if you're involved in continuing education activities, you can do this on your own time. This allows you to still perform your current job while furthering your knowledge and skills.
4. You'll Save Money
Compare the fees between any university and online course, and you'll see that there's a massive difference between prices. For those who are struggling and already living paycheck-to-paycheck, this can literally mean all the difference between pursuing higher education or not.
That's just talking about the course fees alone. When you factor in the fact that you don't have to commute, purchase food on campus, pay for a parking permit, and more, you'll see even more cost-savings. Add in the fact that you also won't have to take time off work to go to class, and it's clear that you'll save tons of money by choosing to take online courses.
5. You'll Get Better Access to Teachers
If you've gone to college before, then you might be familiar with hard-to-access professors. Try as you might, you could never get just 5 minutes of their time, even when you went to their office hours.
One of the biggest advantages of online courses is you can talk to professors more easily. With technology such as email, video chat, and more, you'll have better ways of getting all your burning questions answered.
Teachers won't have to worry about cramming a bunch of questions and answers into lecture time either. Because they can respond to emails outside of class time, this makes it easier for them to answer every student's questions.
6. You'll Learn Better Self-Discipline
We're not going to lie: taking online courses takes a lot of self-discipline to get through. All the upsides we listed above don't come at a cost. You need to be driven enough to keep up with learning and meeting certain deadlines.
However, this is an important life lesson that will benefit you for the rest of your life. If you're able to juggle work and online courses, not only will you learn better self-discipline, but you'll also pick up time management skills that can transfer to your work ethics.
When studying for exams, for the most part, you'll also have to go it alone. This will teach you to be independent and not rely on others to give you direction.
Take Online Courses for a Better Future
If you previously thought that a career change was out of your reach, think again. As you can see, when you take online courses, you can take the necessary steps toward getting a job you truly love and enjoy.
So don't wait another minute. Now that you know that a career change can be on the horizon, get started on online courses so you can begin a better and brighter future today.
