It Takes More to Keep Your Employees Motivated Than Just Money

May 12 2019 - A big motivator for better performance can be higher pay, but it's by no means the only way to keep your employees happy. Praise and recognition are also factors that people respond positively to. If your workforce is happy and motivated, it makes a big difference when it comes to meeting your business objectives. If you want to know how to ensure your employees stay motivated and put in their best efforts here are some of the things you need to be concentrating on.

Be a Supportive Leader

One of the key factors in employee motivation is good leadership. Support your employees by working closely with them. Act as a positive role model by holding yourself to high standards of accountability. Recognize that your expectations influence how your employees see themselves. Create the right conditions for increased productivity by assuming your employees are skilled and dedicated.

Create a Positive Environment

Working professionals spend a large part of their days at the office so it should be a place in which they feel comfortable at the same time as encouraging them to be as productive as possible. Encourage your employees to share information and their knowledge with more listening than talking.

Recognize and Reward

To get the best out of your employees, there has to be a carrot rather than a stick. Consider an employee of the month program, a coupon for lunch at the local deli, or money off coupons for a local store. Recognition can be even more effective when it's given in front of the group. If you recognize and reward employees regularly, you're reminding them that they're appreciated.

Plan a Team Outing

A team that spends time together outside the office, as well as inside, can help make your business one of the most creative and successful. Encourage them to enjoy a drink after work together by paying the bill, treat them to lunch or buy tickets for an upcoming event from ticketsales.com and spend some quality time getting to know each other more.

Listen to Your Employees

It's essential to keep your employees informed about what is going on with the company, but it's equally important to listen to what they've got to say. You need to create an atmosphere in which your employees feel comfortable sharing information with you. If this doesn't happen, they're more likely to share their opinions and frustrations with each other and alienate you from your team.

Make the Workplace a Pleasant Place to Be

How would you feel if you had to work in a dingy, boring office? If the environment your employees get to work in is aesthetically pleasing, well-lit, functional and a fun space they're going to be far more productive. Update the equipment they've got to work with, keep things clean and nice looking. Remember sprucing up the workplace doesn't have to cost a lot of money.

Bad management is one of the main reasons employees leave a position. Honesty, support, and clear communication are the cornerstones of a motivated workforce.
